Summary
Detailed job description and main responsibilities The Band 7 Business Intelligence Developer is a senior technical role within the Business Intelligence function, reporting directly to the Head of BI. The postholder will work with a high degree of autonomy to deliver high-quality data warehouse and reporting solutions that support decision-making across the Trust. The role is predominantly hands-on, requiring strong technical expertise in SQL, data warehousing, and Power BI. The postholder will be responsible for designing and developing efficient SQL queries, views, and data models that underpin reliable and performant reporting. This includes contributing to the ongoing development and optimisation of the Trust’s data warehouse, ensuring solutions are scalable, well-structured, and aligned with agreed data standards. The postholder will design, build, and maintain Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards, ensuring outputs are intuitive, accurate, and fit for purpose. This includes managing data refreshes, optimising performance, applying appropriate security and access controls, and ensuring reports are supported by clear documentation. Working closely with clinical, operational, and corporate stakeholders, the postholder will take responsibility for gathering and interpreting complex information requirements, translating these into technical BI solutions. This will require the ability to explain data and reporting concepts clearly to non-technical audiences and to manage competing priorities effectively. A key aspect of the role is ensuring the quality and integrity of data used for reporting. The postholder will actively identify data quality issues, work with source system owners and data quality teams to resolve them, and implement validation and reconciliation processes to ensure confidence in reported information. The postholder will support the delivery of national and local reporting requirements, ensuring that definitions, business rules, and methodologies are correctly applied and consistently used. They will contribute to testing, validation, and peer review processes to ensure BI solutions meet agreed standards before release. As a senior member of the BI team, the postholder will provide technical advice and guidance to colleagues, contribute to the development of BI standards and best practice, and support continuous improvement across reporting and analytics. The role requires adherence to information governance, data protection, and security policies at all times, ensuring that sensitive information is handled appropriately.
