Summary

A Vacancy at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

Come and join our forward thinking and supportive team.

We are looking to appoint an innovative and high performing Substantive Consultant specialising in Glaucoma, providing all medical and surgical management within this sub-specialty.

CHFTs Glaucoma Service consists of specialist complex clinics, glaucoma standard including virtual review clinics, Optometry led new patient clinics and trained technician diagnostic clinics. Orthoptists, Nurse Practitioners and ACPs also hold glaucoma qualifications and lead IOP Check and Compliance clinics.

The Glaucoma Service runs on 2-stop diagnostics and virtual or face to face review model. Due to the digital maturity of the Trust, virtual reviews can be undertaken off-site to allow for flexible working (work-life balance) and most efficient use of clinical estate within the hospital footprint. Dedicated diagnostics suite for Glaucoma

For those patients requiring laser treatment, lasers for Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty, YAG laser and most recently Micropulse are available in out-patient settings.

For those patients requiring surgery, theatre staff are very familiar with techniques of cyclodiode laser and most recently I-Stent.

This is a substantive consultant post to maintain the capacity of the department to manage the volume of referrals into the Trust from an increasing geographical area. It is expected that the post-holder will have a sub-specialty interest in Glaucoma and be able to deliver on all degrees of disease management(including Glaucoma elective and acute surgery)as well as provide support, training and supervision for junior medical staff (inc. non-training grades), allied health professionals and Ophthalmic Nurses.

This requires a flexible attitude to working practices, managing patients in partnership with other consultant colleagues and professional staff and making the best possible use of resources put at the disposal of the Department. This is likely to require negotiated changes of duties and time-tabled sessions from time to time. Cross-site working may be required.

The weekly timetable would be open to modification depending on the expertise of the successful applicant.

Participation on the T2 Consultant on call rota

CHFT has 2 main sites, Ophthalmology being based in Acre Mills Out-patients, Huddersfield and Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax.

The role also allows a great opportunity for someone to work alongside our local CCGs and local Optical Committee to support the development of Glaucoma practice within the department and community.

The Trust is currently one of the most digitised NHS Trusts in the country having moved to Cerner Millennium Electronic Patient Records (EPR) in 2017. This makes us currently one of the most paper-light and digitised Ophthalmology Departments in the country, and our planned/on-going work will make us a national leader in this area.

In your application please check the box relating to Surgical Procedures, as this is relevant to the post.
