Location: London, SW1X 7HY
Rate of Pay: £17.95 per hour
Working pattern: 37.5 hours per week, 5 over 7 days, (Various shifts)
About This Role: The Cafe Supervisor will lead and manage a team of six food runners, overseeing the delivery of hot and cold meals from the kitchen to patient feeding pantries across five floors. This role ensures the smooth service of approximately 420 meals daily across breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The ideal candidate will have experience in contract catering or retail, with a strong understanding of large-scale back-of-house operations, logistics, and labour budget management.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, schedule, and manage a team of food runners and tray line staff, ensuring smooth meal service across all wards.

  • Train and coach staff on food safety, tray accuracy, patient identification, and customer service standards.
  • Ensure adequate staffing coverage and monitor performance, escalating issues when needed.
  • Oversee meal tray assembly, checking diet codes, allergies, textures, and patient preferences.
  • Verify patient identification protocols and manage timely distribution and collection of meals.
  • Coordinate special diets, late trays, substitutions, and communicate with nursing teams and dietitians.
  • Enforce food safety, hygiene, and infection control policies, including daily inspections and documentation.
  • Assist with tray line operations, basic prep, portioning, and restocking during peak periods or staffing shortages.
  • Respond promptly to patient meal concerns, maintaining high standards of service and professionalism.
  • Uphold confidentiality, safeguarding, and privacy standards at all times.
