Working Pattern: Term Time Only (38 weeks)
Location: Truro and Penwith College (Penwith Campus)
Truro and Penwith College are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Art and Design Technician to support our Creative Arts department. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a vibrant learning environment, providing technical expertise and practical support to staff and students across a range of Art and Design disciplines. Working closely with teaching staff, you will play a key role in preparing materials and equipment for classes, maintaining specialist workshops, and supporting students in the safe and effective use of tools, materials and studio facilities. In this varied role, you will: • Prepare materials, tools and equipment ready for practical classes. • Provide technical support during teaching sessions across a range of creative disciplines. • Support specialist processes including ceramics (kiln firing, glaze preparation, clay reclamation), mould making and casting. • Maintain workshop equipment and carry out first-line fault diagnosis and repairs where appropriate. • Manage stocks of materials and consumables. • Support students in safe workshop practices and ensure health and safety procedures are followed. • Assist with exhibitions, displays and College marketing events where required. The ideal candidate will have: • Practical experience in Art and Design processes, particularly ceramics and 3D workshop practices. • Experience using and maintaining hand tools and workshop machinery such as band saws, pillar drills and sanders. • Knowledge of health and safety practices within a studio or workshop environment. • An Art and Design background with a relevant qualification. • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to support students in a learning environment. • Good IT and organisational skills.
