Analytical Development Scientist
Location: Huddersfield
Rate: £18.91 per hour
Contract Length: 6 Months
Role Purpose
- Provide measurement science to generate and improve manufacturing processes for new and existing products through improved understanding.
- Support manufacturing processes and projects to meet business targets.
- Utilise laboratory and plant information efficiently to identify improvements and implement change in line with good change‑management principles and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver analytical aspects of process development and manufacturing support.
- Remain up to date with scientific developments and proactively identify opportunities to apply them to project work.
- Plan, manage and conduct non‑routine chemical and physical analysis, analytical development, and process analytical technology projects to support new and existing manufacturing processes.
- Provide expertise and advice in Analytical Chemistry to both local and global teams under guidance of the Specialist Team Leader.
- Support development of other scientists in analytical techniques and best practices.
- Use knowledge and experience to improve safe ways of working in partnership with Departmental Safety Leadership teams.
- Manage, record and communicate activities in compliance with site, company, and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities
Critical Knowledge
- Degree (BSc, MSc, or equivalent) in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry with a proven track record in analytical method development.
- Knowledge of HSE systems, QA procedures, and compliance responsibilities.
Critical Experience
- Comprehensive experience with chemical and physical analytical techniques such as LC, GC, MS, NMR, FTIR, SEM, EDS, and PSD.
- Strong background in analytical chemistry, critical data analysis (statistics/DoE), method development, calibration, modelling, validation, and technical transfer.
- Significant experience supporting manufacturing operations including process monitoring, data analysis, troubleshooting, and implementing process improvements.

- Problem Solving: Ability to analyse complex problems and generate creative, original solutions.
- Management: Strong time management, work planning (>4 weeks), team coordination, and meeting management skills.
- Laboratory/Analytical: Comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge.
- Research Skills: Literature/database searching, and ability to interpret complex information.
- Communication: Clear verbal, written, and presentation skills; ability to adjust detail based on audience.
- Networking: Ability to maintain and extend internal/global networks and contribute constructively to teams.
- Physico‑Chemical Awareness: Strong application of physico‑chemical principles to method development, including use of specialised data‑analysis tools.
- Management of Change: Detailed knowledge of site MoC procedures and awareness of impacts to product quality, compliance, formulation and regulatory requirements.
