Do you have a strong understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures and feel confident preparing equipment and materials for practical science lessons?

Would you like to join a supportive secondary school in Swindon, providing consistent cover within a well-established Science department?

TeacherActive is working in partnership with secondary schools in Swindon and the surrounding areas to appoint a reliable and skilled Science Technician for a long-term maternity cover, starting February 2026.

This role offers continuity, stability, and the opportunity to become an integral part of a school department for the duration of the cover.

This role will involve:

• Preparing laboratory equipment, chemicals, and resources for practical science lessons

  
  

• Supporting teachers and students during Biology, Chemistry, and Physics practical experiments

  
  

• Ensuring science laboratories are clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations

  
  

• Managing stock levels of equipment and chemicals, including ordering supplies where required

  
  

• Safely storing chemicals and maintaining accurate COSHH records

  
  

• Assisting with risk assessments and ensuring safe working practices within the laboratory

  
  This role is ideal if you:

  • Have previous experience as a Science Technician or in a laboratory environment

    
    

  • Have a strong understanding of laboratory safety procedures and COSHH regulations

    
    

  • Are organised, reliable, and able to commit to a long-term placement

    
    

  • Have good practical skills and attention to detail

    
    

  • Are comfortable working within a secondary school environment
