Summary


An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Cardiac Occupational Therapy team, working across the cardiac wards, cardiac intensive care unit and within the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team.

This is a varied and busy clinical area, working closely with the Cardiac/ Cardiology MDT at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated band 6 Occupational Therapist with experience of working in an acute hospital setting and preferably with experience in cardiac areas.

As a Band 6 Clinician you will need to be enthusiastic, forward thinking and have a problem solving approach to patient management. You will also require excellent, individual and group work intervention skills. Experience of supervising students and supporting staff is essential.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and discharge planning of clients with a varied caseload. The role requires excellent communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team as well as with other external agencies.

We are committed to supporting undergraduate education, CPD, clinical governance and flexible working.

To work autonomously across the cardiac wards, Cardiac Intensive Therapy Unit and the Cardiac Rehabilitation service to deliver an effective occupational therapy service, working closely with the the wider MDT for discharge planning and continuity of care.



To be responsible for managing a caseload with a variety of complex and diverse patient presentations, social circumstances and/or psychological conditions including acute ill health or chronic, disabling, life limiting illnesses.



Assist the Clinical Lead Therapist and Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist in the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating of the Occupational Therapy Service provided.



The post holder will act as a source of expertise and demonstrate advanced knowledge, skill, and experience in the management of patients with Cardiac conditions and the rehabilitation of patients following a cardiac event.



Educate other colleagues and health care professionals around OT in the management and rehabilitation of cardiac conditions.



Supervise, teaching educate and assess the performance of junior therapists and assistants and OT students.



Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and the teams’ clinical practice and make recommendations to the Clinical Lead/service manager as appropriate. Play an active role in leading the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribution to service protocols.

We are based in the Cardiac Centre at BTH but work closely with the wider department and other teams to support hospital flow.

Our workload is varied and interesting, including acute inpatient duties as well as outpatient assessment, group and remote interventions.

We have robust processes for support and supervision, in addition to an individualised job plan.

You will receive regular supervision with the clinical lead and be provided opportunities to support your clinical and leadership development.

There is a band 6 competency schedule and a peer-support forum.
