Summary
The post holder will be responsible for the care of patients undergoing cardiac catheter laboratory procedures, from Pre-assessment clinic, admission through to recovery and discharge. This includes preparing patients, assisting during procedures, monitoring physiological parameters, recognising complications and ensuring safe post-procedure care. The role requires competence in working within a high-acuity environment, supporting operators during procedures, maintaining aseptic technique, completing safety checklists and ensuring accurate documentation. Once trained, the post holder will undertake scrub duties, support haemostasis management and contribute to emergency cardiac care including cardiac arrest situations within the cath lab. The post holder will communicate effectively with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team, including providing complex and sensitive information. They will contribute to service development, clinical audit, education and supervision of students and junior staff, and maintain their own professional development in line with NMC requirements and Trust policies. Flexibility, professionalism and a commitment to patient-centred care are essential to this role.
