Summary

Salary £35,700 pa (£14,280 pro rata) permanent contract 15hrs per week over two days.

The Finance Manager is responsible for the full range of accountancy, financial and business support services, for the charity and its subsidiary.
This important role manages all aspects of the company’s financial operations and provides accurate and succinct reporting to the CEO & Artistic Director and Board of Trustees.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Accounting, Planning and Reporting:
•Working with the CEO & Artistic Director and budget holders, support the development of the annual budget for approval by the Board of Trustees.
•Produce monthly management accounts and variance analysis, reporting regularly to the CEO & Artistic Director and Board of Trustees.
•Maintain cash forecasts and monitor cashflow, providing regular updates to the CEO & Artistic Director.
•Ensure robust financial systems and controls are in place and effective, and that policies and procedures are adhered to.
•Prepare statutory financial reports and liaise with external accountants and/or auditors.
Prepare financial returns for key funders and stakeholders such as Arts Council England, Hull City Council and other funders and statutory bodies.
•Compile and present financial reports for Board meetings (minimum quarterly), presenting information in a way that is easily understood by stakeholders without a financial background.
•Manage the charity and its subsidiary bank accounts, acting as a signatory.
•Bank and balance sheet control account reconciliations.
•Maintain purchase order/sales invoice processes in accordance with policies.
•Ensure timely and accurate entry of purchase and sales ledger transactions onto Sage.
•Provide updates on cash, supplier payments and partner funding.
•Support budget holders to monitor spend and ensure accuracy of the company accounting system.
•Support non-finance staff with financial processes and procedures

Taxation:
•Ensure compliance with relevant tax regimes, preparing and submitting statutory returns for VAT, Corporation Tax, Gift Aid and PAYE with support from external accountants.

Payroll:
•Oversee the production of the monthly payroll, working closely with the external payroll provider.
•Ensure compliance with pension regulations.

Business Development:
•Work closely with the CEO & Artistic Director and wider team to support the preparation of applications and bids to secure income from grants, sponsorship and partnerships.
•Support the CEO & Artistic Director with costing and projections for new and existing activity.
Leadership and Management:
•Participate in regular team meetings.
Other:
•Perform any other duties as may be reasonably required by the CEO & Artistic Director and Board of Trustees

SKILLS
Essential:
•Relevant accounting and financial management experience.
•Experience of processing payroll.
•Experience in compiling, interpreting, and presenting accurate, complex financial and commercial/business data at a senior level with clear narratives.
•Experience in providing financial information to stakeholders without a financial background.
•Proven experience of formulating budgets, budget monitoring, control and reporting.
•Experience of leading financial planning processes including preparing budgets and writing narratives.
•Experience of using Sage 50.
•Preparation of VAT returns.
•Conversant with a range of accounting/payroll software, good working knowledge of MS word and Excel.
•Excellent communications skills, written and verbal.
•Knowledge of financial legislation and regulations.
•Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to work well with people at all levels in the company and with various levels of finance experience.
•Ability to work well within a team environment.
•An ability to work on own initiative.
•Ability to work flexible hours, on occasion, including evenings and weekends.

Desirable:
•Part or fully qualified accountant or qualified by experience.
•Analysis of figures and report writing including making grant applications.
•Awareness and experience of HRMC requirements including VAT and Corporate Tax (including M&GETR) relating to charities and trading entities.
•Preparation of group VAT returns and partial exemption calculations.
•Experience working in the charitable or voluntary sector or experience of working in the arts.
•An understanding of reporting requirements to Arts Council England.
