Summary

Job Role: Live in care assistant

Reports to: Registered care manager

Working under the direct supervision of the customer, the Personal Care Assistant is responsible for their day-to-day support needs as described in the Personal Assistant Job Description and the customer’s care plan.



Live-in Care Workers are employed to work with customers on a 24 hour basis to provide care and pro active support to the customers as detailed specifically in the care plan provided for each customer. All customers are individuals who will have received a person-centred holistic assessment of their needs which forms the basis of their care plans. The role of the care worker is to meet their customers’ needs and to ensure they are supported as detailed in their care plan ensuring at all times that their privacy, dignity and independence are maintained.

This will include not only assisting with the customers’ personal care needs but also their social welfare. The role may include shopping, cooking and will include light housekeeping duties. Care packages will vary from providing companionship care through to providing palliative end of life care and care worker pay rates will vary accordingly. Care worker must work as directed by the Registered Manager and detailed in the individual care plan.

The aim of 24 hour live-in care is to enable customers to remain in their homes with as much independence as possible, carrying out the tasks in a professional, discreet and caring manner whilst respecting the customers’ dignity, privacy, property and confidentiality.



Job Responsibilities

Pro actively attend to customer

Assisting with Personal Care, including skin care, bathing, shaving, oral care, toileting (including management of bladder & bowels), dressing, hair care.

Enabling mobility, including Moving & Handling transfers, pushing wheelchair, checking of specialist equipment e.g. wheelchair seat cushion, driving of customers vehicle, as directed.

Dietetics, including assistance with menu planning, preparing, serving and storing of foods.

Assist customer to fulfil activities of daily living e.g. working, leisure, education.

Assist with medications as prescribed by medical team.

Dealing with correspondence and financial matters as requested.

Day to day household tasks e.g. changing beds, laundry, ironing, shopping.

Respect for customer confidentiality and discretion at all times.

Negotiate breaks with customer to ensure that these are consented and mutually suitable, whilst monitoring working hours which should not exceed an average of between 8 and 10 per day.

Reporting & Recording as per company procedure.

Commitment for identifying and fulfilling ongoing personal development within Active Assistance.

Adhering to company policies and procedures at all times.

Calm and able to deal with any situations that may arise

Ability to work independently

Desirable criteria

Previous live in experience

NVQ level 3 training

Car driver
