Summary

The Head of Football will be responsible for the strategic leadership, development and delivery of the entire football programme across the Upper School. This includes shaping a positive footballing culture, implementing high-quality coaching principles, and ensuring pupils of all abilities have opportunities to participate, progress and excel. The role encompasses coaching, programme planning, leadership of staff, creation of performance pathways and oversight of all school football activity. The postholder will ensure football reflects the School’s values and commitment to excellence in both participation and performance.

Programme Development

Football is a rapidly developing sport at The Perse School, with participation increasing year on year. The current programme includes comprises of boys squads at 1st XI, 2nd XI, U14A and U14B level, with planned expansion to U15 and U16 squads with the hope of gaining critical mass for offering girls teams in coming years too. There is also an extracurricular programme in years 7-8. The Head of Football will shape the long-term vision for football, establishing age-appropriate training structures, competitive opportunities and clear progression routes. This includes developing a consistent coaching philosophy, establishing links with external clubs and governing bodies, and ensuring all teams receive high-quality training and meaningful competition. The 1st XI competes in ESFA and ISFA competitions, and the programme includes a full midweek and Saturday fixture schedule.
