About the Role
You will join the Vision Impairment Team within the wider Sensory Education Support Team (SEST). One full-time 1.0 FTE post is available (Term time only: 32.5 hours per week), to start as soon as possible. The position is countywide as per service demand, peripatetic in nature, with the majority of the time spent observing, advising and supporting child and young people with a range of vision needs within the home or educational setting, teaching Braille sessions and any ‘additional curriculum’ interventions, liaising with setting and medical staff (Ophthalmology) and other professionals as well as delivering training presentations to key stakeholders. Lincolnshire County Council pay a generous mileage allowance of 45p per mile for all business mileage undertaken from the designated work base. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a full valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle are essential. Teacher Pay & Conditions will apply. Salary will be paid at the successful candidate’s current salary rate on the Teachers’ Pay Scale and will also attract an SEN Allowance; the level of which will be determined by experience.
About the Team
SEST is a highly skilled team of specialist teachers and teaching assistants, composed of a variety of smaller sub-teams: Vision Impairment, Hearing Support, Multi-Sensory Impairment, Habilitation, and Specialist Assistive Technology. The team assess and support children and young people in Home, Early Years', Mainstream, Special, and Post 16 settings in relation to their sensory impairment and their associated access to education and learning. The team is highly valued by settings and families. SEST work with children and young people from 0-25 and are part of the wider Inclusion Team, working closely with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Service (SEND).
About You
You will be a Qualified Teacher (QTS), with a wide variety of SEN experience. Ideally, you will hold the Mandatory Qualification for Teachers of Children and Young People with Vision Impairments (PGDip) – or, otherwise, willingness to train (2 years, part-time, alongside the role). If required, training will be paid for and supported by the team. Full induction and on-going support will also be provided. You will be highly motivated and possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop excellent working relationships with staff across a range of settings as well as parents. You will happily work within a multi-disciplinary team, according to the needs of the individual child or young person. You will be a confident user of technology with a willingness to learn about specific assistive technology to support learners with sensory needs. Experience in using Braille and/or teaching of children or young people with vision impairment will be advantageous.
