About the role:
In this key supervisory role, you will lead a team of hygiene operatives, ensuring that all cleaning and sanitation activities are
completed to the highest standards and in line with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
You will play a critical role in protecting product integrity by ensuring hygiene standards are consistently maintained across
production areas while supporting a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
As a Hygiene Team Leader, you will:
* Lead, coach, and support a team of hygiene operatives to deliver the master cleaning schedule effectively.
* Maintain and manage the training matrix and development plans for the hygiene team.
* Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members.
* Ensure effective coverage during planned and unplanned absences.
* Coordinate and monitor daily hygiene activities to ensure they are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with the master
cleaning schedule.
* Conduct and oversee risk assessments and ensure cleaning standards meet environmental and food contact requirements.
* Ensure full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and audit standards.
* Monitor environmental and food contact swabbing performance and take action where required.
* Ensure availability and correct use of cleaning chemicals and materials.
* Continuous Improvement & Compliance
* Communicate updates to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure effective implementation across the team.
* Promote best practice hygiene and safety standards across the site.
* Support internal and external audits and provide required documentation and information.
* Monitor equipment condition and report damage or risks to support the preventative maintenance programme.
* Ensure hygiene equipment is maintained and used correctly.
* Maintain a safe working environment in line with the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) policy.
* Escalate hygiene or compliance issues where standards are not met.
* Allocate resources within delegated budgets to meet operational needs.
What We’re Looking For:
* Previous experience in a food manufacturing or FMCG hygiene environment.
* Experience supervising or leading teams in an operational environment.
* Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and GMP standards.
* Good organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
* Basic IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Food Hygiene NVQ certification or equivalent.
* Health and Safety NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
* Experience with chemical handling procedures.
* Familiarity with site Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
