We offer highly regarded health services, employing some 10,000 staff. Our ambitious £500m transformation programme is well on the way to delivering state-of-the-art facilities over the next two years to meet the current and future healthcare needs of the populations we serve.

For developing our workforce, the aim is to establish modern, well-equipped centres of excellence with sustainable roles for staff, standardisation of education and training so that we can attract and retain skilled clinical and non-clinical staff to Dorset. This is a great opportunity for you to be part of the transformation change activity.

Smoking

Smoking cigarettes or other tobacco items is now not allowed anywhere on any of our Trust grounds. This applies to our colleagues, patients, visitors and contractors.

Considerate vaping is still permitted but please ensure you are at least three metres from any building.

Our smoking policy and our FAQs are live on the intranet to help guide you through this change. You’ll also find lots of information around supporting our patients and colleagues to stop smoking there too, and advice on what to do if people continue to smoke on site.

Sustainability

The UHD Green Plan is the Trust's Sustainability Strategy and is a board approved policy document. This plan puts the Trust on a path to having 'Net Zero' carbon emissions by 2040 and an interim target of an 80% reduction by 2030 against a 1990 baseline. The Green Plan also commits the Trust to becoming a "Clean Air Hospital" by 2026, to deliver against the UN Sustainable Development Goals and attain a 100% score by 2030 under the NHS sustainable assessment framework SDAT.

The trust expects all staff to play their part in delivering these goals. To help orient staff and support sustainability good practise, the following resources are made available and staff are invited them to familiarise themselves: UHD Green Plan, Net Zero Healthcare e-learning, sustainability intranet pages, Ecoearn (UHD’s sustainability engagement platform), Green UHD Champions Teams Group
