The primary function of this service is to provide design and project management expertise in a consultancy capacity to Engineering Services and other Clients within the council. The workload is diverse and can range from highway schemes, including bridges and retaining walls to public realm commissions and bespoke construction projects. It will be your responsibility to ensure the effective and efficient management and development of a group of employees within the service unit, in accordance with required standards, levels of service, council policies, practices and procedures, in conjunction with the Head of Engineering Services.

About You

Ideally you will have knowledge of design standards especially; Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), Manual for Streets, the Greater Manchester ‘Streets for All’ Design Guide, Local Transport Note (LTN) 1-20 and the Traffic Signs Manual, together with a proven track record of project management. Also, an awareness of commercial activities within a construction environment.

You will be a team player, who will want to develop yourself and others, with the empathy and understanding required of a local government officer.
