Job Title: Maintenance Engineer
Location: Hereford
Day Shift: Monday to Friday 40 hours per week
Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Company Overview
A well-established UK manufacturer of PVC pipes and plastic fittings used within the construction, drainage, and plumbing industries. Operating from a production facility in Hereford, the business manufactures products through plastic extrusion and injection moulding processes and supplies building merchants and distributors across the UK.
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining and repairing plant machinery and site equipment through a combination of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance. The role ensures that all production equipment operates efficiently, safely, and with minimal downtime to support the manufacturing process.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Conduct routine inspections of production machinery and equipment.
* Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across all plant and machinery.
* Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on production equipment.
* Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
* Maintain key spare parts and critical maintenance stock.
* Ensure the maintenance workshop and storage areas remain organised and safe.
* Ensure all plant and process equipment is maintained to safe operational standards.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
Additional Responsibilities
* Carry out general repairs and upkeep of site buildings and infrastructure.
* Schedule preventative maintenance activities and equipment servicing.
* Manage and control external contractors working on site.
* Assist in identifying improvement opportunities for plant reliability and efficiency.
* Prepare costed parts and materials lists for planned maintenance work.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance function.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required
* Strong knowledge of industrial manufacturing equipment.
* Experience working in a production or manufacturing environment.
* Mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability.
* Experience maintaining equipment such as:
o Extrusion lines
o Injection moulding machines
o Motors, drives, and pumps
o Conveyors and process equipment
* Ability to read technical drawings and maintenance documentation.
* Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
Personal Characteristics
* Strong teamwork and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and take initiative.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Proactive and organised approach to maintenance activities.
Qualifications
* Formal engineering or maintenance qualification (desirable).
* Electrical qualification (City & Guilds or equivalent).
* Previous experience in a manufacturing maintenance environment preferred.
