The post is composed of three complex roles: clinical leadership for the service and two consultant-level direct clinical care roles in two related specialties:

1. Clinical Lead for the East of England Cervical Screening Service

2. Pathway Manager in the East of England Cervical Screening Service

3. Consultant Biomedical Scientist in Cervical Cytology

4. Consultant Biomedical Scientist in Gynaecological Histopathology

The post holder will be recognised as a specialist in their field, and as such, the expert direct clinical care practice comprises the significant part of the role. The split of time will be 50% cervical cytology and 50% gynaecological histopathology.

CLINCIAL LEAD FOR THE EAST OF ENGLAND CERVICAL SCREENING SERVICE

The clinical lead is responsible for the clinical leadership, development and performance of quality-driven, efficient and effective cervical screening laboratory service. Working together with the Cellular Pathology Service Manager, Chief of Service and Cervical Screening Provider Lead and Laboratory Manager will actively work to ensure efficient and effective use of resources, developing and maintaining robust systems of clinical governance and contributing to the strategic planning of services. The role of the clinical lead is challenging and will be expected to take the lead and ensure that inter-organisational co-operation, communication and processes are in place to maintain the quality of the whole screening pathway across the East of England.

PATHWAY MANAGER FOR{indicate region}EAST OF ENGLAND ICB REGION

The role of the pathway manager is challenging and will be expected to take the lead and ensure that inter-organisational co-operation, communication and processes are in place to maintain the quality of the whole screening pathway across the ICB region within East of England.

The Norfolk & Waveney cervical screening service is the lead provider for the East of England HPV Primary cervical screening programme serving approximately 400,000 women per year. The East of England area is comprised of 6 regions each requiring a coordinated and efficient network of sample transport links from primary care to pathology reception services, IT connectivity, and direct referrals to 18 regional colposcopy units a robust cytology failsafe of all patent referrals and outcomes.

The Pathway Manager is the point of focus for communication between the Norfolk & Waveney cervical screening service and the service users across the ICB region. This includes NHS England, NHSE Screening team, NHSE Screening QA Team, Cancer Registry, regional ICB NHS Trusts, GP surgeries and community clinics, iCaSH sexual health clinics, HM military and HM Prison institutions.

The role is to ensure that professional, well managed and coordinated arrangements are in place for meeting national requirements applicable to those parts of the cervical screening programme.

CONSULTANT BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST IN CERVICAL CYTOLOGY



The Consultant Biomedical Scientist will demonstrate advanced knowledge, skills and experience as a clinical cytologist, giving clinical advice on patient management and follow-up recommendations in line with national guidance; and to provide specialist training to departmental staff and to service users both inside and outside of the Trust.



CONSULTANT BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST IN GYNAECOLOGICAL HISTOPATHOLOGY



To have direct responsibility, equivalent to that of a Consultant Pathologist, for providing a clinical diagnostic reporting service, based on their own interpretation of both cervical cytology specimens as well as gynaecological histology specimens precipitating clinical action.
