Cairn is currently recruiting for Health & Safety Officer and Compliance Officer roles as part of our strong commitment to Health and Safety legal compliance and the safety of our staff and tenants across the Association. These are varied and fast-paced roles and ideal for someone who enjoys being visible and influencing a positive, proactive, safety culture.
Reporting to the Health and Safety (H&S) Manager, this role will be responsible for leading on H&S initiatives across Cairn. This will include our corporate H&S strategy, including policy and procedure development, risk management, carrying out H&S audits, incident reviews, training, project work and administration. The role will work with internal and external stakeholders in a collaborative approach to develop safe systems of work and processes based on legislation and best practice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – WHAT YOU’LL DO:
*Policies, Procedures and Safe Systems of Work Development
Establish, review and update policy, procedure and processes
Carry out research, implementation and communication of these areas in line with regulatory requirements and best practice
*Risk Management
Advise and support staff to reduce H&S risk and develop a proactive H&S culture
Review, develop and implement H&S risk assessments using a collaborative approach
*KPI Reporting and Data Management
Support the H&S manager with accurate data and statistics to develop H&S reports
Record H&S information on relevant H&S systems and provide data/reporting against KPI’s
*Auditing, Inspections and Assurance
Administer and carry out auditing and inspections as required and root cause analysis / trends and corrective actions
Maintain information on inspections and audit and RAG processing / reporting
*Training and Development
Work with our Organisational Development team to identify H&S training needs and develop materials. Deliver training to staff in a range of areas as required. Incident reporting, management and investigation
*Review incident reports and feedback as required
Input into incident management, carry out incident investigations and causal analysis.
*Other:
Support and carry out H&S projects as required. Undertake administrative duties related to H&S management. Record budgetary spend and report to the H&S Manager.
REQUIREMENTS – WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
*NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent as a minimum and preferably NEBOSH Diploma or willing to achieve this level
*IOSH membership at professional grades or willing to achieve this level
*Comprehensive knowledge of H&S law and legislation
*Extensive knowledge and experience of working at Officer level in a H&S service within an equivalent sized employer
*Experience of a broad range of H&S areas relevant to the role, including risk assessments and high-risk areas such as the ‘big 7’ and other relevant risk areas for a Registered Social Landlord
*Demonstratable project management skills
*Ability to support our staff across a Scotland wide operation
*IT Literate in the use of IT programs and health and safety systems and proficient in Microsoft Office
Personal Attributes:
*Ability to assess and prioritise a varied workload effectively
*Strong negotiator and influencer with interpersonal skills
*Collaborative working to ensure effective outcomes
*Critical listening skills and an ability to have challenging conversations
