We are looking for a passionate and dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join us at St Leonard's CofE Primary School, in Exeter, which is part of the St Christopher's Multi Academy Trust.
The role is to work full-time with a 7-year-old boy who has an Education Health Care Plan with Communication and Interaction needs, global developmental delay and sensory issues. This means he is mainly pre-verbal, requires support with toileting and always requires adult supervision. He likes to have people around him with a space and time to focus on activities he likes doing. Ideally, you will have had previous experience of working with children with global developmental delay, autism/social communication and sensory processing differences.
Working closely with a pupil who has Special Educational Needs and Disabilities is an incredibly fulfilling experience. You will play a vital role in helping them develop confidence, communication and independence. Every small step of progress, whether it's mastering a new skill, connecting through communication, or becoming more comfortable in their environment is a moment to celebrate. This role allows you to make a profound and lasting difference in a child’s life, building a supportive, trusting relationship that truly matters.
St Leonard's CofE Primary School currently has around 615 pupils, set on a large plot, the school benefits from large open spaces for children to engage with learning outdoors, whilst having plenty of space to enjoy break and lunch times with friends. The school has experienced continued growth and success and is proud to serve the community with links to the local church and charities. The staff at St Leonard's CofE Primary School are a positive, hard-working team, dedicated to being the ‘best that they can be’.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a calm and patient demeanour, who is committed to helping young people achieve their full potential and be able to effectively communicate with adults and children alike. We would consider appointing on a part-time basis for the right two candidates.
