Summary


We are seeking an experienced orthoptist with established clinical and leadership experience to provide, manage and maintain an efficient Orthoptics service within the Ophthalmology department at UHCW.

The post will ideally suit someone who is driven, ambitious and takes pride in delivering exceptional care to patients through the establishment of efficient and effective services.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside and lead an exceptional group of orthoptists to help foster and prioritise a supportive culture within the team which also promotes continuous learning and innovation.

The role will involve working collaboratively with the Clinical Service Lead for Ophthalmology and the Group manager for Ophthalmology, Orthoptists and technicians in order to deliver a comprehensive Orthoptic service, at Clinical and Training level, to the highest standard of quality and care, whilst still maintaining the allocated resources.

Candidates should be a registered Orthoptists with the HCPC and demonstrate study at Masters Level or equivalent experience

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
• To assist in the Professional leadership and responsibility for the management, supervision, and administration of all orthoptic services ensuring the maintenance of the highest possible standards of care.
• Support the ongoing development of in the orthoptics service ensuring patient safety is met.
• To work closely with the Group Manager and the Clinical Service Lead for Ophthalmology with regards to strategic re-design to ensure local patient access targets are achieved and maintained.
• Responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining protocols to ensure best clinical practice for the Orthoptic Service.
• To undertake prospective and retrospective multi-disciplinary clinical audits to ensure that e services provided attains agreed standards of patient care and is effective in its delivery.

• To work as an autonomous independent practitioner undertaking the responsibility for the management of patients presenting in Core orthoptics services. This includes orthoptics clinics, support to paediatric clinics, adult motility clinics, school screening programme, neuro-ophthalmology clinics and EERS.
• Promote best practice throughout the orthoptics service and provide expert advice to Orthoptists, Medical staff, and Allied Health Professionals in the management of complex cases.
• To work closely with the Clinical Lead for Ophthalmic Services UHCW to deliver and oversee a comprehensive range of core orthoptic services and develop advanced extended roles relevant to the orthoptist skillset and departmental service needs whilst maintaining the highest quality of care.
• Responsibility for overseeing training for and to undertake specialist clinical activity requiring extensive knowledge, experience, and expertise.
• Responsible for undertaking diagnostic services like biometry service, Optos, OCT etc.
