Southwark Council’s Housing Repairs & Maintenance service delivers essential repairs, maintenance and improvement works across the borough’s housing stock. The team ensures homes are safe, well‑maintained and compliant, providing high‑quality services to residents.

The Role
The Wet Trade Operative will carry out a range of wet trade repairs and maintenance tasks across council properties. This includes plastering, rendering, tiling, patch repairs and associated building works. You will work independently, attending appointments, diagnosing issues and completing high‑quality repairs in residents’ homes.

This is a frontline role requiring strong technical skills, excellent customer service and the ability to work safely and efficiently across varied environments.

Key Responsibilities
Carry out wet trade repairs including plastering, rendering, tiling and patching.

Diagnose repair issues and complete remedial works to a high standard.

Work independently across Southwark properties, attending scheduled appointments.

Ensure all works are completed safely, efficiently and in line with council standards.

Maintain accurate job records and update systems as required.

Provide excellent customer service when working in occupied homes.

Adhere to health and safety requirements, including safe use of tools and materials.

Support the wider Repairs & Maintenance team as required.

Candidate Requirements
Proven experience in wet trades (plastering, rendering, tiling).

Ability to diagnose and complete repairs independently.

Strong customer service skills and professional conduct in residents’ homes.

Good understanding of health and safety practices.

Full UK driving licence desirable (if vehicle-based role applies).

Ability to work remotely and manage workload effectively.
