Are you a maths graduate keen to gain valuable experience in a secondary school before moving into teacher training?
Secondary schools across Bury are looking to appoint a Graduate Math Academic Mentor to join their maths departments and support students in developing strong numeracy and problem-solving skills. This Graduate Math Academic Mentor role provides an excellent opportunity for graduates who want meaningful classroom exposure while preparing for future teacher training routes such as PGCE, Schools Direct, or Teach First.
The Graduate Math Academic Mentor position is particularly suited to aspiring teachers who want to develop confidence working with students while strengthening their understanding of how maths is taught in secondary education.
About the Role
In the Graduate Math Academic Mentor role, you will work closely with experienced teachers and support pupils in building their mathematical knowledge and confidence.
Typical responsibilities include:
• Supporting learning across KS3 and KS4 maths lessons.
• Delivering targeted 1:1 and small-group intervention sessions focused on numeracy and exam preparation.
• Assisting teachers with classroom activities and helping students stay engaged with learning.
• Providing additional support for pupils who may be struggling with key mathematical concepts.
• Helping prepare resources and monitor student progress where appropriate.
• Gaining valuable classroom experience while working as a Graduate Math Academic Mentor.
Candidate Profile
Schools are keen to hear from graduates who are passionate about maths and interested in working with young people. The ideal Graduate Math Academic Mentor will have:
• A 2:1 degree or above in Mathematics or a closely related STEM subject.
• A strong interest in pursuing a career within teaching or education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Confidence supporting students and explaining mathematical ideas clearly.
• An enthusiastic and proactive approach in the Graduate Math Academic Mentor position.
Prior experience in schools is not required, and full support will be provided to help you succeed in your Graduate Math Academic Mentor role.
