Summary
Technical Sales Engineer – Pumps
Location: Oldham, OL1
Salary: £40,000–£42,000 per annum
Hours: Monday–Thursday 08:00–16:30 | Friday 08:00–15:30
Benefits: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, up to 10% annual bonus, 3% pension contribution, mileage allowance in line with HMRC guidelines
The Opportunity
An established and well-respected pump specialist is looking for a commercially minded Technical Sales Engineer to join its office-based team in Oldham.
This role offers ownership of customer enquiries from initial specification and pump selection through to quotation, contract review, and aftersales support. You will work across a broad portfolio of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, supporting key accounts while identifying opportunities to generate new business.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong sales professional who enjoys problem-solving, customer interaction, and converting enquiries into profitable orders.
Your Responsibilities
• Managing customer enquiries from pump selection through to contract review and aftersales support
• Selecting centrifugal and positive displacement pumps using best practice and technical expertise
• Identifying spare parts from drawings and manuals and arranging sourcing
• Specifying, planning, sourcing and purchasing bill of material (BOM) items
• Supporting key accounts through site visits and assisting in generating new sales opportunities
• Maintaining accurate documentation and records in line with ISO9001:2015 quality standards
What You’ll Work With
The role involves working with a range of equipment, including:
• Rotary lobe pumps
• Progressive cavity pumps
• AOD pumps
• Rotary vane pumps
• Gear pumps
• Centrifugal pumps
• Cold water booster sets
• Piston pumps
Essential Requirements
• Experience in technical sales or internal sales engineering
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals, including identifying parts from exploded diagrams
• Full UK driving licence
• Commutable to Oldham (or willing to relocate)
Desirable Experience
• Direct pump selection experience
• Experience with mechanical or fluid handling products
• Knowledge of centrifugal and/or positive displacement pumps
• Experience working with BOMs and sourcing
• Exposure to ISO9001 quality systems
• Experience identifying spare parts from drawings
• Experience generating new business
