Dementia Care and Personal Care Support team for elderly gentleman - Morpeth @ £13.74ph
Apply at UKCIL.com. Reference: 1e5c71ab
We are looking for a team of committed carers, ideally two-three individuals, to provide care and support for my 86-year-old father who lives in the Amble area. You must like cats as there are two who certainly run our household! He needs somebody to help get him up and ready each morning as well as support him to get ready for bed each evening. He would like somebody who is cheerful, chatty (but not too chatty), confident, and adaptable. My Father has been diagnosed with Sub Cortisol Vascular Dementia which means that even if he knows what he wants to do his body does not respond in the way he would like. It doesn't affect his memory in the way other forms of dementia would. He has a good understanding of what is going on in the world of politics and everyday life but finds his body does not keep up with his brain. There is a robust, detailed moving and handling plan and assessment completed by the OT and Physio team. His condition means he can be very slow at processing instructions, and the successful applicant will need to be incredibly patient, calm, and able to offer creative and motivational techniques to bring him back to the task in hand as his mind can wander. He is quite deaf, especially in the morning, mishearing often leading to playing with the words. This can be funny, distracting, frustrating, or occasionally unintentionally rude for his carers! He can be stubborn and will spot an opportunity to stall things eg if you say, “Can you stand up now?” he will just say “Yes” and sit there. A bit like the child that has an answer for everything but not the answer you want or expect! You must be adaptable and able to manage these interactions to be suitable for this role. My father has some amazing stories to tell about his early life in Malaya and India and will be very interested to find out about you and your life. His interests include Northumberland, Books, historical artifacts and loves a browse in charity and antique shops. He likes to talk about things going on in the world today and ideally the successful applicant will be able to work and talk during their visits. Hours of work:
- 8am-9am Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday
- 8am-9:20am Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
- 8pm-9pm(0r later) 7 days per week
- Holiday entitlement is accrued pro rata at the equivalent of 5.6 weeks per year
