Summary
Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC code of Professional conduct and work within limits of competence. Demonstrate the use of evidence-based specialist skills and practice, maintain high standards of care by personal example and conduct and be a credible practitioner in the area. Have overall responsibility for the ward/department area. To be a point of contact by ensuring that they are visible, accessible and an assertive figure to whom patients, relatives and staff can turn for assistance, advice, and support. To be responsible for Ward/Department nursing staff and to provide a quality and cost-effective service in accordance with Trust policy and procedures. Communicate effectively and efficiently and liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the patients receive seamless care within the trust. Act as a role model and resource for the multidisciplinary team requiring advice and support. Take an active approach to the development of clinical competence in self and others. Act as the key person in the co-ordination and communication of complex, sensitive, emotional, condition related issues to patients, relatives and to the multidisciplinary team. To establish and promote a safe, clean, therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues. To be accountable for the standards of nursing practice within the ward and for ensuring staff work to those standards.
