Summary
Your new school
You will be joining a dynamic and nurturing Post‑16 Alternative Provision in Leicester, dedicated to supporting young people who thrive outside of mainstream education. The provision is expanding its curriculum and is excited to introduce Art as a new pathway for its students.
This is a rare opportunity to shape a brand new subject area, developing the curriculum, designing the learning environment, and embedding creative practice into the heart of the school's offer. You will be part of a committed staff team who are passionate about giving students the skills, confidence, and opportunities they deserve.
Your new role
As the Art Instructor, you will lead engaging and accessible Art sessions for students aged 16 and above, many of whom have additional needs, social and emotional barriers, or previous disengagement from school.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and delivering a creative, flexible Art curriculum tailored to Post‑16 learners.
- Introducing students to a wide range of artistic mediums and techniques.
- Creating an inclusive learning environment where all students feel safe to explore, express, and succeed.
- Working closely with pastoral and SEN colleagues to support students holistically.
- Helping shape the wider creative culture of the provision and showcasing student work.
- Contributing to the set up and development of a new Art studio/teaching space.
This role offers significant autonomy and scope for creativity. Both full time and part time candidates are welcome to apply.
What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience working in an educational setting-ideally within secondary Art, SEN, or alternative provision.
- Strong practical Art skills across a range of mediums.
- A trauma informed, patient, and student centred approach.
- Confidence in building relationships with young people who may have complex needs or challenging experiences of education.
- Passion for using Art to inspire, motivate, and re-engage learners.
- Flexibility, resilience, and the drive to build something new from the ground up.
