University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

We are looking for an Emergency Care Administrator to join our busy team within the Emergency Care Unit here at University Hospital Southampton. The department works days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays all allocated on a pro rata basis. If you are looking for part time please note we would need you to work a minimum of 15 hours per week.

We are a large teaching hospital-based Acute Medical Unit & Same Day Emergency Care and we treat patients who have been admitted directly from the Emergency Department or referred to us by their GP.

We provide an excellent level of care for patients and the department has a reputation for innovation and is increasingly recognised for its clinical academic work in emergency care. This results in the delivery of expert care, education and support to patients with complex needs within the most acute phase of their care.

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHSwe’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

As an Emergency Care Administrator within this unit you will gain experience of working in a very busy, fast moving environment and you must be able to cover shifts including days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

The role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth running of the Unit. The successful applicant will:
• Welcome patients and visitors to the Ward/Emergency Department, answer appropriate questions and provide relevant information in a sensitive manner, refer to qualified members of the team as necessary.
• Undertake Ward/ Emergency Department Reception clerical and administrative duties on behalf of the department, liaise with individual team members and other departments as required in a manner that will contribute to the effective and efficient running of the department.
