Crynodeb

At Sandham Memorial Chapel we work as a small team to care for the incredible 20th century chapel that houses a collection of custom-made paintings by Stanley Spencer. As a team, we work closely with visitors and volunteers to help visitors learn about Sandham and the paintings within.

Please be aware that this role is based at a property in a remote location, with limited access to public transport. Although we are only open 4 days of the week during the open season, we have someone on site every day, so a combination of weekend and weekday working is required.

Salary: £12.25 per hour - we’re currently undertaking our pay review process and it is likely that this salary will be increased from 1st April 2026.
Hours: 15 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a C.V. or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.
What it's like to work here
Sandham Memorial Chapel was completed in 1926 as a war memorial for the Great war, focused on the memories of Stanley Spencer’s time in Salonika and his time as an orderly in Bristol.

Stanley Spencer was a British artist who grew up in Cookham, near the Thames and is well known for his paintings depicting biblical scenes. At Sandham we have 19 painting by Spencer that depict his memories of his time in the army and one of his famous resurrection pieces. The chapel was built for these paintings and is an incredibly significant memorial to the First World War.
