Are you interested in a placement working with some of the biggest names in Engineering? A yearlong placement is a great opportunity for students to increase their employability through hands-on experience.

We have an exciting opportunity in the AMRC Integrated Manufacturing Group for a motivated STEM student with a strong grasp of digital technology applications and a desire to learn about manufacturing environments. Based in The AMRC's state-of-the-art Factory 2050, our expanding team is seeking talented placement students to contribute to our diverse and growing project portfolio.

Involvement in the Factory 2050 Integrated Manufacturing Group (IMG) is a fantastic opportunity to influence the way products are being manufactured and to develop innovative solutions towards industrial problems in the UK. You will deal directly with some of the most advanced technologies and companies in the world, such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, Spirit AeroSystems, and GKN Aerospace, as well as diverse industries beyond aerospace.

You will work alongside Software Developers, Technical Leads, and others on a diverse range of projects. You'll play a vital role in delivering cutting-edge research projects spanning robotics, automation, and digital transformation, dealing directly with customers and other external stakeholders and occasionally travelling to visit suppliers and partner companies.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and gain practical experience with emerging technologies while contributing to projects that shape the future of UK manufacturing.

For this role, you will need to have a passion for one or more of the IMG’s core capabilities, which include IIoT, machine learning and AI, automation, mechanical design, data science, HMI technology (including AR/VR), connectivity (including cybersecurity), and process simulation. You will need to be studying for a relevant degree and will ideally understand the application of these technologies in a manufacturing environment.

You are expected to have:

- Experience of working with one or more of the following:
- AI / Machine Learning / Data Science
- Control systems and Software
- Networks and connectivity
- AR/VR development (Unity or Unreal)
- Digital twins
- Software development and script-based programming e.g. GO, Rust, Python, Java, C++/C#, or other
- Cyber security
- Ability to make decisions on the day-to-day use of complex technology.
- Ability to analyse and solve problems using novel approaches with an appreciation of longer-term implications.

The post is for undergraduates on an accredited degree programme only.

You must be available for an interview in April 2026. Should your application be successful you will be contacted to arrange a suitable date.
