Summary

About the Role
The Security Team plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of people, buildings and collections across the Old Bodleian Library, Weston Library, Radcliffe Camera and Clarendon Building.

You will work as part of an in-house team and act as a visible point of contact for readers and visitors. Duties include patrolling public and reader areas, checking access to restricted spaces, carrying out routine bag and locker searches, locking and unlocking buildings, setting alarm systems, responding to emergencies, handling general enquiries, and maintaining accurate records. You will also provide support across the team during busy periods or staff absence.

This is a full-time post, working 36.5 hours per week. You will work a three-weekly rota which includes evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays, with an expectation of working one weekend in three and one additional Saturday within the rota cycle.

Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to safety-critical work, including responding to emergency situations.

About You
You will be willing to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays in line with the operational needs of the service. You will be able to work effectively and cooperatively as part of a team and demonstrate a professional, customer-focused approach at all times. You will be confident interacting with people at all levels within the organisation and beyond, using tact and diplomacy in a range of situations.

You will be observant, with a strong eye for detail, and able to remain attentive while carrying out repetitive tasks that involve significant periods of standing and walking. You will have a good standard of written and spoken English and be comfortable maintaining accurate records. A first aid qualification or an industry recognised security or customer service qualification, or relevant training and experience, would be advantageous.
