Summary

Qualified Science Teacher - Specialist SEND Setting
Location: Bristol

Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £145 - £233 per day (dependent on experience / teacher pay scale)

Are you a passionate Science Teacher who wants to make a real difference in the lives of young people who need education delivered in a different way?

Do you have the patience, empathy and creativity to support students with special educational needs and social, emotional and mental health challenges?

TeacherActive are recruiting a Qualified Science Teacher to join a specialist SEND provision in the Bristol area, working with KS3/KS4 students studying Science.

This is a temporary position initially expected to become permanent in September 2026.

About the Setting

This specialist provision supports young people who may have found mainstream education challenging or inaccessible.

Students within the setting have a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many learners have also experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and early childhood trauma, which can impact their engagement with education.

Because of this, the school takes a therapeutic, relationship-led approach, prioritising safety, trust and emotional regulation alongside academic learning.

Classes are very small, typically 1–3 students, and are supported by an HLTA or Teaching Assistant, allowing for highly personalised teaching and strong relationship building.

Learning is delivered through a holistic and flexible curriculum, combining academic subjects with practical, creative and outdoor learning experiences such as horticulture, craft and land-based activities. This approach helps students build confidence, independence and life skills, while working towards recognised qualifications.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver engaging Science lessons

  • Adapt teaching to meet the individual learning and emotional needs of students with SEND

  • Use creative, practical approaches to make Science accessible and engaging

  • Build positive, consistent relationships with students

  • Work collaboratively with support staff and the wider pastoral team

  • Create a calm, structured learning environment where students feel safe to learn

We Are Looking For Someone Who Has:
    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

    • Strong knowledge of the GCSE Science curriculum

    • Experience working with SEND, SEMH, or neurodiverse learners

    • Confidence supporting students with ASC, ADHD and trauma-related needs

    • Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills

    • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection

    • Patience, resilience and a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable young people

      In Return, TeacherActive Will Offer:
      • Competitive rates of pay (paid weekly via PAYE)

      • Support from a dedicated and experienced consultant

      • Access to the TeacherActive App to manage your availability
