Summary
The Research Fellow will work within a team of experienced researchers and clinicians both within and outside of UWE Bristol, and will engage with external stakeholders, including clinicians, cancer support organisations, and patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE). Your role will involve supporting the delivery of each stage of the research, including conducting a scoping literature review, engaging with stakeholders, collecting and analysing qualitative data, synthesising findings, and supporting the preparation of reports, presentations, and academic publications.
This role will be based at the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR), the world’s largest research group focusing on the role of appearance and body image in people’s lives. CAR offers a stimulating environment for research and is home to a thriving, experienced and internationally renowned group of researchers. CAR is one of UWE’s recognised centres of research excellence and has a broad portfolio of externally funded research projects, public engagement, and knowledge exchange activities. CAR also stages an international conference, ‘Appearance Matters’, every other year.
About you:
Candidates are expected to be working towards completion or have completed a PhD in health/clinical psychology. You will have experience in psycho-oncology, body image, or related psychosocial research, and knowledge of the psychosocial challenges experienced by people living with and beyond cancer. You will also have experience conducting literature reviews and/or qualitative research methods, and experience working with clinical, community, or voluntary sector stakeholders.
Desirable criteria include experience conducting research with women who have had breast cancer, experience working with patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) contributors, and experience contributing to the development

This is a fixed-term maternity cover post until 1 March 2027, offered on a part-time basis at 0.5FTE (2.5 days per week).
The interview for the role is scheduled to take place on 9 April 2026.
This role is campus based with some opportunity for remote working.
