Primary role
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior Recreation Assistant, where you will be instrumental in the effective planning, organization, and upkeep of our premier sports and fitness facilities, equipment, and supplies. This senior role involves the supervision of junior Recreation Assistants and hands-on participation in the daily operations of the Fitness and Sports Center Complex across both RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell. You will hold key responsibilities, including ensuring all facilities and athletic fields are meticulously maintained and compliant with all health, safety, and fire regulations. Furthermore, this role will require you to manage budgets, plan and execute purchases for fitness and athletic equipment, and serve as a Quality Assurance evaluator for maintenance and service contracts.

Key Skills required for this role
1. Practical knowledge of sports and fitness activities combined with skill in the maintenance and use of sport and fitness materials and equipment in providing support and assistance to recreation specialists and/or recreation program managers.
2. Knowledge of program and facilities management, health, safety, fire, and environmental regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Ability to coordinate the use, maintenance, construction and replacement of sports and fitness facilities ensuring adequate facilities, equipment and grounds are maintained and used properly.
4. Ability to effectively manage, organize and utilize available resources/funds by sourcing, selecting and purchasing equipment and supplies.
5. Ability to identify, report and resolve work problems and answer questions relating to the program.
6. Skill in effectively communicating with others both orally and in writing.
7. Ability and skill in performing general office administrative and clerical duties such as producing, tracking and maintaining documents, memorandums, reports, spreadsheets etc.
Conditions of employment for this role
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required.
5. You may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
6. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. Your work hours will be 37.5 hours per week on a fixed (Mon-Fri) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies
8. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing, however positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.
9. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, CAT B UK valid driver's license is required for the position.
10. The employee may be required to work uncommon duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and/or public holidays.
11. Pre-Appointment physical/health screening is required. Appointment may be contingent upon passing a physical examination.8.The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, couching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and/or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items over 50 pounds.
12. The work may require the employee to work outdoors during inclement weather and cold or hot/humid temperatures.1
13. Duties are performed at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell, as required/scheduled.
