Lead a mission‑critical operation at the heart of UK defence

Are you an experienced operational leader who thrives in complex environments, builds strong customer relationships, and inspires high‑performing teams? This is a role for someone who wants to make an impact shaping culture, performance, and customer experience on a contract of national importance.

RAF Brize Norton is a dynamic, high‑tempo environment at the forefront of UK air mobility and global operations. The Brize Norton Support Contract (BSC) is a major support contract that plays a vital role in enabling the RAF’s mission. You will be leading one of Serco’s most significant Defence operations within a long‑standing partnership that spans more than two decades.

Serco is seeking a Contract Manager to lead the Brize Norton Support Contract (BSC) – a major multi‑activity support operation at the RAF’s largest and most strategically important Air station. As Contract Manager, you will have end‑to‑end accountability for service delivery, customer satisfaction, operational performance, and leadership of a diverse workforce delivering essential airfield, logistics, and engineering support services.

You’ll play a key role in guiding both the strategic direction and day‑to‑day delivery of our services. You’ll help translate big‑picture goals into practical, thoughtful action and support the development of approaches for future bid activity. Working in close partnership with senior colleagues, you’ll help create an environment where teams feel empowered to take ownership, uphold high standards in safety, integrity, compliance, and customer care, and contribute to meaningful, sustainable operational excellence.

You’ll nurture positive cultural change, bring Serco’s values to life, and encourage the growth and confidence of colleagues so they can develop their skills, support our customers, and fulfil their aspirations. All of this contributes to delivering our commitments in line with governance requirements and the SMS. By guiding colleagues and encouraging consistent, high‑quality standards, you’ll help shape a collaborative, positive culture and support essential aviation services that make a difference to people and communities across the UK.

What you’ll do as a Contracts Manager

You’ll be entrusted to:

- You will provide leadership and direction to approx. 380 Serco colleagues across the Brize Norton Support Contract operation.
- Support accountability for revenues of approximately £17m.
- Build strong, trusted relationships with Senior RAF stakeholders, serving as the senior point of escalation for service delivery matters and ensuring a consistently high‑quality customer experience. This includes fostering a customer‑focused culture across the contract.
- Lead the safe and compliant delivery of all contract services, driving best practice, operational consistency, and continuous improvement across logistics, engineering, and airfield support activities
- The role carries accountability for operational outcomes, regulatory compliance and robust financial management of a contract generating £17m+ in annual revenue. You will lead initiatives to improve performance, value, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Promote thoughtful solution development for BSC opportunities and oversee smooth transitions and ongoing service delivery.
- Support the delivery of a growth plan to enhance BSC capability and ensure effective contract retention.
- Encourage operational excellence through consistency, shared best practice and supportive performance management.
- Strengthen business performance through cost awareness, continuous improvement, and sound financial management.
- Foster a truly customer‑centred culture and provide a confident point of escalation to enable organic growth.
- Ensure safety, quality, environmental and regulatory commitments are met to recognised standards.
- Promote behaviours that reflect Serco Values and Serco Standards.

Does this sound like you?

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:

- Experience in a senior role within a large, complex contract or environment.
- Supportive and confident people‑guidance and team‑management skills.
- Experience working with self‑direction and using your own initiative to make considered choices.
- Strong relationship‑building and communication skills across written, verbal, and presentational formats.
- A reflective, insight‑driven and well‑organised approach to planning and analysis.
- Customer‑centric, with a proven ability to build trust and influence senior stakeholders
- Operationally strong, able to drive safe, compliant, and efficient service delivery
- People‑focused, capable of inspiring and guiding large teams
- Commercially astute, with experience managing budgets, performance metrics, and contractual obligations
- Resilient and adaptable, comfortable operating within a fast‑moving environment
