Who are we looking for?
We are in search of a Motor Vehicle Technician to join our Team at Totton College. Providing general technical and clerical assistance to the motor vehicle curriculum areas in the college ensuring the smooth running of the curriculum areas such as ordering stock and equipment, setting up classrooms and practical activities, fixing equipment where possible, keeping tools in good condition, etc.We are seeking someone who is passionate about helping young people to learn and achieve, and who can help them be ready to take their next steps. We need someone who is compassionate in their approach, and who can work with young people who may have had multiple barriers to education in the past. We want someone who is flexible and can be part of a small, local team who come together in all circumstances to put our students first.
Responsibilities (but are not limited to):
Confirm material stock, are checked, catalogued, maintained and stored appropriately
Dispose of waste as appropriate
Manage, monitor and record the disposal and repair of faulty equipment
To manage and maintain Health and Safety across the department including risk assessment and COSHH data
Liaise with suppliers to encourage competitiveness and secure contracts
Monitor safety by ensuring students are following correct procedures to ensure best practices.
Create and maintain task and risk assessments for the safer operating procedures for the workshop
Order and control the issue of PPE
Maintain and manage general housekeeping including the cleanliness of all facilities within the motor vehicle department.
Provide hands-on support during practical lessons under the direction of lecturers or instructors
Demonstrate correct use of tools, equipment and workshop processes when appropriate
Requirements for this role:
· English and Maths at GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent Level 2
· Experience working with young people with anxiety, ASD/ASHD
· Relevant industry experience and strong subject knowledge
· Good organisational skills
· Experience of working in a technical position within the motor vehicle industry
· IT literate (experience of using Microsoft Office and Excel)
· The ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
· Flexibility in working hours
· Experience in dealing with suppliers
· Relevant education experience
