#TeamMKUH are expanding our Bank pool for Patient Safety Partners (PSP). A PSP is someone who works with the NHS to make care safer for patients. PSPs can contribute to the Trusts governance and management of patient safety processes. They provide a different viewpoint on patient safety not influenced by any organisational biases within the Trust, or historical systems. They can be a patient, carer, family member or anyone with an interest in providing a different lens on patient safety matters in the Trust. They cannot be an employee of the Trust, but can be NHS employees from other Trusts or areas.
Developed by NHS England, the Patient Safety Partner is an ever-evolving role to help improve patient safety. Here at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH), we are excited to be widening our team of PSPs to work alongside our staff, patients, and families to influence and improve safety within our hospital. PSPs can be patients, carers, family members or other lay people.

Interview w/c 13th April 2026
• To be actively involved in the design of safer healthcare at all levels at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH).
• To assist in the implementation of the trust safety strategy and policies.
• To be a key part of the patient safety team, attend committees, and engage in projects delivered or supported by the patient safety team, patient experience team or quality improvement team.
• Use lived experience as a patient, relative or a member of the local community to support and advise MKUH on activities, policies and procedures that will help to improve patient safety and support the delivery of high-quality care.
• Champion safety across the organisation prioritising the patient and family perspective.
• To work closely with the patient safety team as incident investigators, looking to make positive changes towards safety.
• To promote sharing of learning following the review of local safety incidents.
• To raise awareness of ongoing safety work within MKUH with the support of the trust communication team.
• To support teaching of both the national safety syllabus and the local safety training to staff and students working within the organisation.
• To offer a different perspective on, and challenge, safety related issues at trust board meetings.

Personal & support
• To adhere to the principles of the PSP agreement.
• To attend PSP support meetings and training events.
Communication
• PSPs must agree to report any identified safety incidents or concerns to staff.
• PSPs must ensure that patient confidentiality is always prioritised and maintained.
Infection control
• To adhere to trust infection control policies including the principles of hand hygiene when entering and leaving ward areas.
• To champion good hand hygiene, encouraging visitors and staff to adhere to the trust hand hygiene guidance, directing them to washing facilities where necessary.
Equality and diversity
• To have an understanding of patients’ needs showing consideration for cultural and religious requirements.
• To act in accordance with the trust equality and diversity policy and procedures.
Health and safety
· To report any environmental factors that may contravene health and safety requirements.
· To ensure that all work is carried out in line with trust policies and procedures.
· To attend induction and keep up to date with mandatory training that may be required.
