Summary
About The Team:
SRUC’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences (SVMB), the first new School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland for 150 years, was founded on the organisation’s established, high-profile expertise across this sector.
SVMB is a natural evolution of SRUC’s established, interprofessional and highly acclaimed expertise in Veterinary and Animal Biosciences. In combination with our unique reach into the Scottish sector, we will drive excellence. Our collegiate approach will facilitate synergies, addressing skills, knowledge and enterprise gaps across the breadth of this sector – providing essential support to Scotland’s Natural Economy.
Wayne Powell, SRUC Principal and CEO affirms that, “this is a ground-breaking model to expand access to educational opportunities and broaden the range of potential students who would not ordinarily be able to attend a School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences. It is also the first to offer a tertiary range of educational opportunities for veterinary professionals and in the related animal sciences.”
The Opportunity:
The Senior Veterinary Clinical Rotations Facilitator (VCRF) will serve as the inaugural member and lead of the VCRF team, holding responsibility for the effective delivery of clinical placements during the final-year Intra-Mural Rotations (IMR). These placements occur throughout the final year of the veterinary medicine programme and involve students working alongside veterinary professionals to develop and refine the skills required for entry into the veterinary profession. IMR activity will be delivered across a variety of settings throughout Scotland, and potentially beyond, including veterinary practices, referral hospitals, laboratories, abattoirs, government departments, disease surveillance centres, and other relevant workplaces.
The post holder will oversee the recruitment, management, support and development of the VCRF team, undertaking all associated HR responsibilities across the employee lifecycle. They will deploy resources effectively to ensure smooth and efficient team operations and will establish and maintain robust systems of work that enable the team to meet its objectives.
In leading the VCRF team, the appointee will direct the recruitment, coordination, management and support of partner clinical practices and associated animal enterprises that underpin the distributed model of veterinary education. This will require regular and frequent engagement with clinical partners, both in person and online, to meet with practice clinical mentors and cultivate strong, productive working relationships.
The Senior VCRF will hold responsibility for ensuring that all host partners meet the quality assurance standards required by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and other relevant accrediting bodies across the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSci) curriculum, supported in this work by the wider VCRF team.
Additionally, the post holder will lead efforts to support students undertaking IMR placements, providing one‑to‑one feedback and coaching to help them achieve the Day One Competences and successfully transition into the veterinary workforce
