Our Medicine Division atNorth WestAnglia Foundation Trust is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Stroke Medicine to join our friendly and supportive team.You will be part of a dynamic and forward-thinkingteam of Stroke Consultants delivering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient stroke services acrossPeterborough and Cambridgeshire.
We are a leading hub of innovations in precision stroke medicine implementingnew technologiessuch as Clopidogrel resistance testing, multimodule point-of-care ultrasound in neurology,neurointensivecare and stroke medicine, pre-hospital stroke videotriage, mobile stroke unit.
We also run highly specialised services including young stroke and spasticity services and much more.

Through this role, you will have the opportunity toparticipatein research initiatives and service improvement projects aligned with national priorities and local commissioning needs. This role will be working closely with our colleagueswithin theICS;bringinginnovative collaboration betweenNorth WestAngliaand Cambridge UniversityHospitals(CUH)NHS Foundation Trusts,to enhance stroke care across the region by combining clinicalexpertise, shared learning, and best practiceandcontribute to service development and clinicalgovernance.
You will play a key role in deliveringemergency and acutestroke care, including thrombolysis, thrombectomyand early rehabilitation, as well as supporting outpatient services for stroke and TIA patients. You may also work with community teams such as the Early Supported Dischargeservice, andprovidespecialist advice to colleagues across other specialties.
As a Stroke Consultant, you will bring your expertisein managing thrombolysis, thrombectomy referrals,EmergencyTIAservice, ward rounds, inpatient referrals, and MDT meetings, as per an internal rota.
You must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (orpossessequivalent experience). We will provide suitable office accommodation, secretarial support, and IT access.

Clinical Care
The postholder will support the delivery of stroke services for Greater Peterborough and Southwest Lincolnshire. The primary base will be Peterborough City Hospital, working within the Hyperacute and Acute Stroke Units, with potential cross-site work at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The role forms part of a team of twelve stroke specialists providing emergency and hyperacute care, acute and rehabilitation care, virtual stroke services, and TIA and outpatient clinics. The postholder will work closely with consultants to ensure equitable service provision and contribute to cross-cover arrangements.
Research
The Acute Stroke Centre is highly research-active and supported by specialist research nurses. The postholder will have opportunities to participate in national and international studies and to develop original research. The service is recognised for leadership in point-of-care ultrasound and contributes to multiple international programmes, including WON and SECRETO, alongside pre-hospital stroke research initiatives.
Teaching and Training
The postholder will provide specialist advice across the Trust and contribute to the education of multidisciplinary teams. The department delivers regional and national stroke training, including simulation programmes, and is active in international POCUS education. The role includes supervision of junior doctors and teaching of medical students.
Leadership and Governance
The postholder will contribute to service management, development of regional stroke pathways, and clinical governance. Participation in audit, mandatory training, and infection prevention standards is required.
