About the RoleThis is a pivotal Full-Time Science Technician position, starting ASAP. The successful candidate will act as the backbone of the Science Department, ensuring that laboratories are fully functional, safe, and stocked for high-level A-Level and equivalent practical work. This role involves active engagement with the curriculum, supporting teachers in delivering complex experiments, and maintaining an environment where students can explore Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with confidence.

Requirements- Experience: Prior experience working in a school.
- Legislative Knowledge: Familiarity with COSHH and Health & Safety at Work regulations.
- Safeguarding: A commitment to the welfare of young people and an enhanced DBS check.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Scientific Knowledge: A strong understanding of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to A-Level.
- Meticulous Organisation: The ability to manage multiple practicals across different labs simultaneously.
- Technical Proficiency: Skill in handling delicate lab glassware and complex machinery.
- Problem Solving: Capability to troubleshoot equipment failure or experiment "misfires" on the spot.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in measuring chemical concentrations and solutions.
- Effective Communication: The ability to explain technical procedures clearly to non-experts.
- Preparation: Setting up equipment, chemicals, and specimens for daily practical lessons.
- Safety Management: Carrying out rigorous risk assessments for all technician-led activities.
- Maintenance: Cleaning and calibrating scientific instruments like pH meters and microscopes.
- Stock Control: Monitoring inventory levels and sourcing cost-effective chemicals and materials.
- Technical Support: Assisting teachers and students during live practical sessions.
- Waste Disposal: Ensuring the safe treatment and removal of hazardous substances and chemical waste.
- Trailing Experiments: Running through new practicals to ensure they work before the lesson starts.
- ICT Support: Operating and maintaining specialist data-logging equipment and software.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensuring all labs adhere to COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines.
- Collaboration: Attending departmental meetings to plan for upcoming curriculum requirements.
