Summary
Want to boost your income, grow professionally and gain a unique perspective on the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification? AQA are seeking moderators to work flexibly this summer. This flexible role fits alongside a full-time teaching job and is completed online from home.
Key responsibilities
• Review samples of marked work to check that marking is fair and consistent across centres.
• The new moderator quota is 8 centres. Typically, the initial sample for a centre is up to 6 candidates. If these show inconsistent marking, you may need to complete a further sample. Full details of your allocation, deadlines and earnings will be confirmed when you receive your contract.
Why become an EPQ moderator?
• Moderate a wide range of projects and work across numerous topics that can guide and inspire you.
• Build on your existing knowledge through expert training in the mark scheme.
• Join a community of subject specialists. Share best practice and work alongside other EPQ moderators, supported by an experienced team leader.
• Moderate projects from home or school at times that suit you, with clear deadlines and ongoing support.
• Typical earnings range from £1,200 to £1,600.
What you need
• At least three full terms teaching your chosen subject and level within the last five years.
• A senior referee who can verify your relevant experience.
• Preferably a degree or teaching qualification.
• To take part in standardisation, which gives you the chance to practise moderating before you receive your official quota. Standardisation is held virtually so will fit around your existing commitments. It includes a one-day remote meeting, a standardisation task, and a half day remote wash-up meeting. Once you’ve accepted your contract, you will be offered a range of dates so can choose a time that suits you.
• Availability during the marking and standardisation period.
Key dates for 2026:
Standardisation:
• One day remote meeting will take place on either Saturday 2 May, Sunday 3 May or Monday 4 May. You will only attend one and can select any of these dates.
• Online standardisation window is open from 2 to 10 May.
• Half day remote wash-up meetings will take place on either Saturday 9 May (am), Saturday 9 May (pm) or Sunday 10 May (am). You will only attend one and can select any of these dates.
Moderating:
• First batch of marks due: 6 June.
• Final batch of marks due: 4 July.
