Summary
The Community Activator Coach plays an essential role in supporting local people to lead healthier, more active lives. Working at the heart of the community, the role blends coaching, behaviour change support, partnership working and community engagement to create welcoming and inclusive physical activity opportunities. Coaches contribute directly to improving community wellbeing by helping individuals and groups overcome barriers to getting active.
-Key Responsibilities
Deliver Community Focused Activity Sessions
- Lead and facilitate sport and physical activity sessions designed for diverse community groups, ensuring activities are enjoyable, inclusive and relevant to local needs.
- Apply leadership and coaching principles to create safe, motivating environments where participants feel supported and confident.
- Use behavioural change approaches to encourage participants who are inactive or unsure how to begin their activity journey.
Support Community Wellbeing and Engagement
- Develop strong rapport and positive relationships with residents, families, and young people to help sustain engagement in physical activity.
- Promote healthier lifestyles by working with individuals who have low activity levels, supporting them to build confidence and routine.
- Act as a visible and positive role model within the community, helping to inspire change.
Collaborative Community Work
- Work alongside a range of partners including youth workers, police, health teams, volunteers, sports clubs and community safety services to support shared wellbeing goals.
- Participate in community level activation events and contribute to their delivery.
Programme Development and Support
- Support organisations to evaluate, develop and promote physical activity sessions and community based programmes. This includes assisting with planning, promoting sessions and capturing insight to improve services.
- Use customer insight information to inform the design and delivery of engaging activities that reflect the needs of local groups.
- Safeguard the wellbeing and safety of all participants during sessions and community interactions.
Use of Digital Tools
- Utilise social media, digital platforms and technology to share messages, engage communities and promote opportunities and capture quantitative and qualitative data.
Day to Day Activities
- Preparing resources, session plans and equipment ahead of physical activity sessions.
- Greeting participants, building rapport and creating a friendly, inclusive space where everyone feels welcome.
- Delivering a variety of activities ranging from informal play to structured community sports sessions.
- Recording attendance, collecting feedback and noting observations that support programme development.
- Meeting with community partners or colleagues to coordinate delivery and share updates.
- Supporting families to be active together by facilitating fun, accessible group activities.
- Participating in team meetings and reflective practice as part of personal development.
- Attending Coach Core training sessions, including practical workshops, 1 to 1 support, development weeks and discovery learning activities.

- The Community Activator Coach is a key frontline role that directly impacts the health and wellbeing of local residents. - Through ongoing training, development and reflective practice, the coach also contributes to the organisation's culture of learning and continuous improvement.
