This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the College’s ongoing financial health, enabling effective planning, and supporting strategic decision-making.
About the Role
As the Management Accountant, you will provide a finance business partner service to departments across the College. You will take responsibility for producing high‑quality financial information, supporting budget holders, and contributing to the College’s strategic and operational goals.
You will:
Produce monthly Management Accounts, reports, commentary and cashflow analysis.
Highlight financial risks and opportunities for effective decision-making.
Support and challenge budget holders to ensure accurate budgeting and forecasting.
Create, maintain and consolidate budget and forecast templates for use across the College.
Assist the Finance Manager with organisational budget preparation and forecasting.
Deliver financial training to staff through presentations, online tools and written guides.
Build effective working relationships with budget holders and other stakeholders.
Support the monitoring and reporting of grants, including claims and deferred capital.
Complete key month-end processes, including journal preparation and posting.
Maintain the daily cashflow spreadsheet and flag emerging issues or opportunities.
You will also contribute to quality improvement initiatives, departmental KPIs, the College Operational Development Plan, and wider Finance service improvements.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing detailed financial work with stakeholder engagement, training delivery, and continuous improvement.
About You
We are looking for an organised, analytical and collaborative individual who can provide confident financial support to managers across the College.
Essential:
Hold or be working towards a recognised accounting qualification.
Level 2 (or higher) qualification in Maths and English.
Experience working within a busy finance department.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel knowledge.
Ability to work effectively as a team member while leading on management accounting tasks.
Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with budget holders.
Desirable:
Experience delivering training or guidance to non-finance colleagues.
Experience monitoring grants and preparing claims.
Experience working in an educational environment.
You will be professionally credible, detail-focused and proactive, with a strong commitment to accuracy, service quality and continuous improvement.
Why Join Us?
At Plumpton College, we live our values—Ambitious, Professional, Enterprising, Passionate, Supportive, and Progressive — in everything we do.
You’ll benefit from:

Staff are enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme and have access to comprehensive CPD opportunities. As a Disability Confident Committed employer and a signatory of the Menopause Pledge, we are proud to foster an inclusive and supportive workplace.
New colleagues benefit from a structured induction and a supported six-month probationary period, as well as a strong coaching culture with in-house L5 trained coaches.
Employees also enjoy a range of lifestyle and wellbeing benefits such as eligibility for a TOTUM card and Blue Light Card, free eye tests, free use of our onsite gym, cycle-to-work scheme, discounted Plumpton wine and courses, free onsite parking, and an Employee Assistance Programme.
Our commitment to staff wellbeing and community is further demonstrated through regular networking events, active EDI and Sustainability committees and social events at Christmas.
We reserve the right to interview or close the vacancy early should we receive a high number of applications. Early applications are strongly encouraged.
