Summary
BBS Recruitment is an independent recruitment agency for the public sector, supplying to a variety of clients across London, Hertfordshire, and surrounding areas.
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Head of Kitchen to work in schools in Thurrock and surrounding areas.
Duties and Responsibilities of Head of Kitchen:
• To organise, manage, and supervise all activities within the school kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and service delivery.
• To prepare and produce high-quality meals for pupils and school staff in accordance with the School Meal Service standards.
• To ensure an excellent standard of customer service is delivered to pupils, staff, and visitors.
• To lead, support, and supervise the Catering Team to deliver a high-quality catering service.
• To maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen, including clearing up and cleaning duties and assisting with the set-up and take-down of dining areas.
• To ensure full compliance with food safety regulations and due diligence requirements.
• To act as the responsible person for allergen awareness and ensure all allergen information is managed appropriately.
• To promote the Catering Service and support initiatives to increase meal uptake across schools.
• To stay up to date with new products, promotions, and changes in food safety legislation.
• To support the Catering Service across different school sites within Thurrock when required.
Working Hours:
• 25 hours per week, Monday – Friday (school hours, exact schedule to be confirmed)
Requirements for Head of Kitchen – Catering & Hospitality:
• Previous experience working as a Cook, Chef, or Kitchen Supervisor within a catering environment.
• Experience preparing and serving meals within a high-volume environment such as schools, hospitality, or contract catering.
• Knowledge of food hygiene, food safety standards, and allergen awareness requirements.
• Ability to organise and supervise kitchen operations and support a catering team.
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact positively with staff and pupils.
• Flexible and proactive approach with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude.
• Willingness to work across different school locations within Thurrock if required.
• An Enhanced DBS Check with Children’s Barred List will be required for this role.
