We’re looking for a compassionate and reliable individual to join our team at our Care Centre in Walthamstow as a Funeral Service Operative - Ceremonial. Being a Funeral Service Operative means playing a central part in one of life’s most significant moments. You’re often the first person a grieving family meets, and your presence can shape how they remember the most difficult of days. This role calls for empathy, confidence, and attention to detail.
The Funeral Service Operative - Ceremonial has a vital role in representing our Company in front of our Clients at what can be one of the most difficult times in their lives. Your responsibilities will mainly relate to the provision on ‘on the day’ services; excellent personal and vehicle presentation is vital, as it respectful and courteous behaviour around the deceased and in front of Client families.
Shift Patterns
This role is based on a shift pattern across our London centres, which includes:
- Monday to Thursday - 8am - 6pm
- Tuesday to Friday - 8am - 6pm
As a Funeral Services Operative - Ceremonial, you will:
- Support Funeral Directors in delivering seamless service and ceremonial work
- Drive and operate specialist vehicles (including hearses and limousines)
- Maintaining high standards of presentation for vehicles and facilities, and ensuring they are well-maintained
- Provide professional and respectful service delivery and maintain high standards of personal presentation, conscious that you represent Dignity, which includes the Care Centre(s) and also the individual Brand and their Branches and external stakeholders.
- Assist with the collection and presentation of funeral flowers, placing them on and off the vehicles with care and respect.
- Maintain excellent standards of vehicle cleanliness and operating efficiency at all times. Ensure vehicles are stocked and fuelled as required and that safety checks are carried out.

We’re looking for someone with/is:
- Demonstrates empathy, professionalism, and composure under pressure
- Has a respectful, caring approach when supporting both colleagues and families
- Is physically capable of manual handling tasks, including lifting and carrying
- Is reliable, flexible, and able to work outside standard hours when needed
- Takes pride in presenting themselves in a professional and dignified manner
- Holds a Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
No previous funeral experience is necessary — complete training, uniform, and support will be provided.
