Our client specialist SEND school in Waterlooville is seeking a skilled and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (Level 3) / Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join its dedicated team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and who thrives in a nurturing, relationship‑based environment.

This maintained special school supports pupils with moderate and severe learning difficulties across a main site and satellite provision. The school offers spacious grounds and well‑resourced learning environments that provide a calm, supportive setting where children feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant (Level 3) / Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), you will support pupils, teachers, and the wider school community. Working under the professional direction of qualified teachers, you will also have opportunities to take whole‑class responsibility when required.

Key Responsibilities
- Delivering learning activities to individuals, small groups, or whole classes
- Supporting the implementation and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Monitoring and assessing pupil progress
- Creating a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment
- Providing guidance and support to other staff in your areas of expertise
- Supporting pupils with communication, emotional regulation, sensory needs, and independence
- Supervising pupils during trips, enrichment activities, and off‑site learning
- Building trusting, stable relationships using clear, calm, and consistent communication

About You

The ideal candidate:
- holds NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent experience
- has experience supporting children with SEND
- communicates clearly and confidently, adapting language to meet individual needs
- can work independently and take whole‑class responsibility when required
- demonstrates patience, emotional intelligence, and a nurturing approach
- builds positive relationships with pupils, families, colleagues, and external professionals
- maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and high standards of care
