Summary

Job Advert Welfare Assistant

Grade: Grade 1A

Hours: Midday / Lunchtime hours, 5 hours per week, termtime only

Contract: Fixedterm for 4 months

About the Role
We are seeking a caring, reliable and proactive Welfare Assistant to supervise pupils during the midday break, both in the dining hall and the playground. This is a vital role in ensuring that our pupils enjoy a safe, positive, and wellmanaged lunchtime experience.

Key Responsibilities

Mealtime Supervision:

- Ensuring pupils wash and dry their hands before eating.

- Supervising orderly queuing, movement, and behaviour in the dining room.

- Supporting pupils with social skills such as table manners and correct use of cutlery.

- Assisting younger pupils with cutting up food.

- Managing spillages or sickness to maintain a clean and safe dining area.

- Ensuring plates, cutlery, beakers and trays are returned appropriately.

- Assisting with distributing food to tables if required.


Breaktime Supervision:

- Ensuring good behaviour and positive play.

- Monitoring safety and preventing accidents or unsafe behaviour.

- Ensuring proper use of toilets and cloakrooms.

- Ensuring pupils remain on school grounds unless permission is given.

- Reporting immediately to the Headteacher if a pupil leaves without approval.


Safeguarding & Expectations

The post holder must follow child protection procedures, maintain confidentiality, and report concerns to the safeguarding lead. Duties must be carried out in line with Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, and Community Strategy Policies.
