ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Lloyds Banking Group is one of the UK's largest financial services organisations, with a heritage spanning over 325 years and a clear purpose: Helping Britain Prosper. We serve more than 26 million customers and nearly one million businesses - playing a pivotal role in the UK economy and society by supporting households, businesses and communities to thrive.

Our policy work reflects this breadth of interests. We engage with politicians, policymakers and regulators on critical issues such as housing, infrastructure, financial inclusion and agriculture. From working directly with government to deliver new financing for social housing projects to partnering with devolved administrations and Mayoral Combined Authorities to unlock regional growth and investment, we bring evidence-based ideas to the heart of policy discussions. Joining us means working on policies that matter - making a real difference to communities in every part of the UK.

We're looking for an outstanding Senior Economist to join our Group Corporate Affairs function - widely recognised as one of the most effective and respected corporate affairs teams in the FTSE 100. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of public policy and political engagement at Lloyds Banking Group, as we expand our remit to work more closely with national, regional and local governments to help Britain prosper.

This role will sit in the Group Public Affairs team and is ideal for someone with a strong background in applied economics and public policy. You'll bring a passion for using economic analysis and modelling to inform policy development, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to senior collaborators and political audiences.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

In this role you should expect to:

  • Provide high-quality economic analysis and modelling to support the Group's public policy and political engagement work. Your work will evidence the case for positive policy change to governments and external collaborators.

  • Develop evidence-based insights on a wide range of strategic policy issues, including growth, housing, infrastructure and financial inclusion.

  • Work closely with policy leads to quantify the impact of proposed policy interventions and develop compelling, evidence-based narratives to support advocacy and political engagement.

  • Produce briefings, reports and presentations for senior leaders, including the Group Executive Committee and Board, to support external engagement.

  • Monitor, analyse and interpret government publications, including data and analysis, identifying implications for the Group's public policy priorities.

  • Engage with external  collaborators - including government departments, think tanks, and academic institutions - to share insights and build our reputation as credible, thoughtful leaders in public policy.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

We encourage applications from candidates with diverse experiences, however, in order to be successful in this position we would need to see clear evidence of the below:

  • A strong academic background in economics or a related field, with applied practical experience in advising and / or building evidence to inform policy development in government, consultancy, or a research institution.

  • Proven ability to conduct economic modelling and quantitative analysis, and to translate findings into actionable policy recommendations.

  • Familiarity with UK political institutions and policy-making processes, and an interest in the role of private finance in addressing socio-economic opportunities and challenges.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex economic ideas clearly and persuasively to non-technical audiences.

  • A collaborative and entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to work across teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Intellectual curiosity, political awareness, and a passion for making a difference - both for Lloyds Banking Group and the communities we serve.
