Job Introduction

We’re looking for a Housekeeper to join our Sodexo team at North Devon District Hospital. In this vital role, you’ll help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Your work will directly support health and wellbeing throughout the hospital. What you’ll do:

  • Complete scheduled cleaning tasks in assigned areas in line with policies and procedures.

  • Maintain high cleanliness standards and safely dispose of domestic and clinical waste.

  • Replenish consumables and manage cleaning stock and equipment in compliance with COSHH.

  • Carry out a range of cleaning duties, including floors, surfaces, sanitary areas, and waste collection.

  • Use PPE, approved equipment, and follow safety guidelines at all times.

  • Respond to ad-hoc cleaning requests as directed.

  • Work with clinical staff to provide a patient-focused service.

  • Report maintenance or care issues and undertake additional duties as required.

  • Working within a cleaning team, dealing with waste, smells, bodily excretions and dirt

  • Show empathy, care and compassion

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, colleagues, clients

  • Ability to work independently, flexibly and professionally – dealing with stressful and changeable situations

  • Ability to adhere to instructions, standards and procedures

  • Ability to build relationships and show respect for other people

  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Basic literacy

  • Physically able to push a cleaning trolley and move light furniture

  • High standard of personal hygiene
