Summary


We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist with experience of working within breast services competent in breast examination techniques to join a busy and friendly team at Ipswich Breast Care Centre.

You will undertake various roles within the nursing team, whilst supporting patients through their treatment pathway. As an experienced breast examiner, you will be working within clinics such as breast pain, rapid assessment, PCFU, wound clinics and offering patients telephone advice. This is a key position in the breast multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be a dedicated and knowledgeable practitioner, working within their professional boundaries to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.
• Act as keyworker to case load of patients with breast cancer within agreed local and national policies and guidelines, and provide a telephone number for patients as a point of contact
• Act as the patient’s advocate, using highly developed communication and negotiating skills when informed discussion may lead to decisions being made concerning treatment options for breast cancer.
• Contribute to the effective management of inpatient and outpatient care. This encompasses surgical treatment through to patient centred or individualised follow up
• Attend and play a central role at the multi-disciplinary meetings acting as patient advocate when liaising and collaborating with other professionals to promote high quality and individualised patient care.
• Communicate highly complex and sensitive issues proficiently and effectively with patients, and their carers under difficult circumstances
• By assessing holistic needs, recognise actual and potential psychological problems patients may have relating to breast cancer, its treatments and body image and provide relevant emotional and informational support and education, ensuring that the highest quality of individualised patient care is delivered
• Identify risk factors for developing anxiety and depression, respond appropriately with signposting and referring to other agencies if indicated
