Company Overview
A bespoke construction consultancy firm seeks a Quantity Surveyor to join their team based in Shrewsbury. The successful candidate will provide expert commercial support to construction clients engaged in both new build and refurbishment projects across the Midlands. The role offers hybrid and flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
Job Duties
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and tender documentation for construction projects.
• Manage contractual and financial aspects throughout the project lifecycle to ensure cost control and value optimisation.
• Conduct detailed site visits to verify progress and validate costs against project specifications.
• Analyse variations and change orders, negotiating costs with contractors and suppliers to maintain budgetary control.
• Administer procurement processes, including evaluating tenders and recommending suppliers or subcontractors.
• Produce regular financial reports and forecasts, highlighting risks and opportunities to senior management and clients.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, engineers and other stakeholders to ensure commercial objectives are met.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, contractual obligations, and industry standards throughout all commercial activities.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
• Full, valid driving licence for travel to various sites within the region.
Education
• Degree-level qualification in Quantity Surveying or equivalent professional education.
Experience
• Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a consultancy or construction environment.
• Demonstrable experience managing commercial aspects of both new build and refurbishment projects.
• Experience preparing tender documentation, cost plans, and financial reports.
Knowledge and Skills
• Strong understanding of cost control principles and construction procurement procedures.
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills to produce accurate estimates and forecasts.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills to liaise confidently with clients, contractors and suppliers.
• Proficiency in relevant software applications used in quantity surveying and project management.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities under pressure.
Working Conditions
• Based primarily in the Shrewsbury office with monthly site visits across the Midlands.
• Hybrid working model combining office and remote work to support flexible schedules.
• Work involves periods of both desk-based tasks and time spent on construction sites in varying weather conditions.
